      <title>linux/oracle backups</title>

      <description>I have a linux redhat es2.1 OS (filesystem ext3)with Blackboard 6.1 utilizing a stripped version of Oracle 9i.  I need to do a full backup to a tape device.  Does anybody have any suggestions on the best method/tools to accomplish this.</description>

      <description>Hi Darrell,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Go for a full backup ,after stopping all your database instances.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;RMAN can be used for taking backup of online databases as well.       <description>Aside from the Oracle stuff, tape backups are fairly straight forward.  Pax would do the job well. I've heard good things about taper:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;A href="http://taper.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank"&gt;http://taper.sourceforge.net/&lt;/A&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;"It allows backups to tape drives, filesystems, floppy drives, removable devices... In fact, any device that Linux supports.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Incremental backup &amp;amp; selective restores are available, as well as backup verifies."&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
