I believe it's a winmodem, which will make it more difficult. But find the windowm page and varify this. If it is, there are a few that are supported, you might need to recomplie the kernel to get it to work. Never tried this before, but you were looking for a clue, I hope this helps.

-jeff

Hola Emilio
I am using the same Omnibook with installed SuSE Linux 8.0. Most things do work with the ACPI fix and the right sound card driver. But so far I didn't have any luck with the modem driver either. In all newsgroups you read a lot about the winmodems but we are looking for a solution. right?
The most useful page is the one as followed:

http://sidlo.penguin.cz/ES2838/

Although it didn't work for me :-( Please let me know if you had more luck. And if so, could you send me your kernel config file?
(/usr/src/linux/.config)

good luck and best regards
Mike
Sirnach, Switzerland

I finally bought a PCMCIA modem which supported linux, now linux will replace XP as my primary OS, as it should always have been :-D

Very bad for HP using modems without any kind of linux support.

Thanks to those who suggested possible ways (web pages) to look for a solution.

Regards, Emilio.
Sevilla, Spain.
