I have connected the HP sure Dat 40 external tape drive to RH 9.0 machine. While booting the drive is detected in Channel B of SCSI card

Mar 25 18:54:31 server kernel: blk: queue c3655618, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff)
Mar 25 18:54:31 server kernel: Vendor: HP Model: C5683A Rev: C104
Mar 25 18:54:31 server kernel: Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

When I give "mt status" command, I am getting

Mar 25 19:05:13 server kernel: (scsi0:A:9:0): parity error detected in Data-in phase. SEQADDR(0x1a3) SCSIRATE(0x95)

On switching off the external tape drive, I am getting

Mar 25 19:13:13 server kernel: (scsi0:A:9:0): Unexpected busfree in Data-out phase
Mar 25 19:13:13 server kernel: SEQADDR == 0x6f
Mar 25 19:13:14 server kernel: st0: Error 10000 (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x0, host bt 0x1).
Mar 25 19:13:14 server kernel: st0: Error 10000 (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x0, host bt 0x1).

I hope the proble will be in SCSI ID. But I don't know how to solve this.

Any suggestions

TIA
Moorthy

1) Makes sure the SCSI id is not zero, that will conflict with the card. Also make sure it does not conflict with anything else on the scsi chain.

2) The device comes with a terminator, but I just installed and got one working on a HP-9000 server without a terminator. Putting the terminator on can cause problems. The device is probably self terminating.

SEP

Hi,

Along with the SCSI Id and the terminator, also check the adapter, i got
"Unexpected busfree in Data-out phase" error message when the adapter was bad.

SCSI ID is 3 which doesn't conflict's with others.

The same setup worked with RH 7.0 previously. So no doubt abt SCSI interface.

It worked with terminator only prevously. However, I will try without terminator.

Regards
Moorthy
Hi Moorthy,

If you do 'lsmod' ( more info in /etc/modules.conf ), is the modules which are loading for the device is the same in both RH 7.x and 9.0

Thanks
Bindumadhava.
