Hi
Unfortunately, there is no CD-burner on this box.I have to install new harware for that. The filesystem is ok.

Yesterday I ran from the Knoppix 3.8.2 LiveCD to see if there where any lvmtools I could use. Although I couldn't get X to work (XFree86/agpgart trouble) there where no lvm module I could load to fix my problem.

Is there no way I can work around this and mount the /dev/vg00/lvol3 (/usr).

Regards,
Runar

Greetings!

Of course I'm using LVM on my Linux. It's the greatest thing. :-) However, I'm in trouble now.
I need to mount a /dev/vg00/lvolx running of a rescue floppy, but all I get is complaint about a not recognized file system. I know for sure that LVM and the file system is good.

I guess I need to get the LVM tools, pvdisplay, vgdisplay, vgchange etc. and the lvm module loaded, but how do I get the lvm module on a rescue floppy?
My kernel is 2.4.19. All LV and the VG is contained on one single PV (hard disk).

Anyone?

Regards,
Runar Jørgense

You're saying floppy.. I take it the machine doesn't have a bootable CD-ROM?

The rescume mode of the first CD of most distributions have all such tools available already.

If you really want to get it on to a floppy, try copying the /sbin/vgchange.static binary. The display stuff you probably won't fit on a floppy due to the required libraries.

Thanks you for answer Stuart.
I can boot from CD-rom. However, the distros I've looked at doesn't seem to have a compiled lvm module that I can easily load. I need that to use the LVM tools. Don't I?

Don't I?

If you can boot with a floppy, a similar process will allow you to create a boot cd.

I recommend you do that.

Yes, it would appear you may need LVM tools.

If its just a corrupt filesystem then fsck or e2fsck will allow you to fix it.

SEP

The first CD of any of the RH or Fedora distributions have a rescue mode. Use one of those.
