Hi John

Have just built a number of RedHat machines on the HS20 blade without any issues. They are running version 3 though. Have you checked 2.1 is supported ?

If so

Can you boot into the recover mode and select to boot into text mode via /etc/inittab

id:3:initdefault:

That should tell you if X has any issues starting. If it has

Also check /var/log/XFree86.*.log

HTH

Steve

I think the newer the Red Hat Release, the better off you are with the blade servers.

I recall seeing an IBM website saying RH 2.1 was supported on blade servers. I can't remember whether there was a special install procedure or drivers.

There is a potential problem with installing a software product that was created several years prior to the invention of the hardware.

I recommend contacting IBM or seeing if your applications will work on a later Red Hat release.

SEP

Hi

Also make sure you have "ALL" the latest firmware for the bladecenter as it is quite shocking. I'm not sure how IBM get away with half the cr*p they release these days. Makes you wonder about the level and experience of people they have writing there code. I've had hours and hours of fun spent updating their code on their machines because it doesn't work

rant over

Steve
