Compaq Presario M2000.
I am new to note book. I really don't know what video card or display I should select. Can not find on the web either.

Hi,

To know the type of video card you can type :

lspci | grep -i vga

It seems that the card shipped on Presario M2000 notebooks is :

ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE)

It seems that this video card works with Xorg, however the resolution is limited to 1024x768 unless you install the ATI video drivers :

I tried it and great, now I learned lspci will do for me. Gave me integrated graphic 82052/855GM , but I did not find it in the list. I go to ati, intel and I have not find out Hoz. Vert. or memmory and depth.

When you come across anything I can learn, let me know.

Hi,

The X11 driver needed is Intel (a generic driver for most Intel cards named "i810").

That's great.

I got one configured with i810 on e-machine.
Took me a long time to get it going.

I can try that but it is a desktop and may have different Horiz. and Vert.

I 'll let you know of my progress.

Depending on your distro you will a utility that will help with the configuration:

"sax2" for Suse
"system-config-display" for Redhat/Fedora
"drackconf" for Debian (I think)
