Steven,

The problem is that the disk driver needed for the CDROM drive is not on the install media. After loading the linux CD driver, the CD drive you are trying to use is not recognized. Hence, the install thinks that there is not a CD attached to the system.

You can either swap to a later CD drive, or build a driver disk and load it in the floppy drive specifying the dd= parameter.

Good Luck

I am trying to build an experimental Linux system with some antiquated hardware, an LH-Pro Netserver. The install starts fine in either text or X after the boot prompt. After asking local/kb and mouse settings a notification box appears. The install is asking me to place the RH8 Disk 1 into my CD drive; but it is already in there.

I’ve installed RH 7x and 8 on several systems but have never seen this happen. The disk tests fine; what am I missing? The CD is connected to the LHPro’s internal SCSI controller. I know the LHPro isn’t supposed to work with Linux but I’ve done it with similar systems, even an LD-Pro before.

TIA,

Steven
I had a similar problem once and the is a problem with the installation media burned or the cd device.

My problem was the media burned.

The way I installed, when I had this problem, is through the network. So create a NFS export that contains the installation files and use a network installation.

Then boot from the installation CD and type:

linux askmethod

Well I don't have another *nix box to net install from but I can redownload the disk 1 image and/or try burning another. I also have access to another CD drive or two so I'll try things until I get it.

Thanks.

It could be a corrupted media(CD1). Try to re-download it and do chksum verification then burn it. I hope, it should help

-Arun

The askmethod allows you to install also from a local hard drive.

You can use then the disk images to install it from a local disk.

See the red hat installation guide for more details.

Sounds like everyone is roughly on the same page, but Craigâ s mention of the CD driver jogged some memories that maybe I have seen this once before and loading the driver did the trick. It has been a long time.

Iâ m going back to the install guide and review some items since Iâ ve never really followed the guides to a T. Wow, Iâ m admitting to going to a manual, is that something I should publicly post? ;-)

When I finally get this thing going, Iâ ll post the solution.

Thanks,

Steven
