Assuming you've set everything up right, all you need is an entry like:

@ IN A <IP adderss=""> in the zone file (somewhere).</IP>

domain.net is just your domain, so no machine resides there.

You're saying that you can get to www.domain.net. Does that mean you can ping it, get to it with your web browser or what?

As long as you are able to successfully do nslookup commands you are configured fine. Try doing nslookup www.domain.net - that should work it seems.

Then try nslookup www.hp.com and see if that also works. If so then I would say your dns is working fine.

HTH,

Chris

Chris, he's stated that he can get to 'www.domain.net'. THere's nothing against being able to browse to 'domain.net' either (nslookup hp.com).

It's a matter of preference.

Hello Kirk,

I suppose you're setting up a "dummy" domain for testing purposes only. This domain will only be accessible from your own machine (since on the internet it probably points to somewhere else).

First, we need to see a few of your configuration files:

- /etc/resolv.conf
- /etc/named.conf
- all files under /var/named

Once we have that, it should be very easy to spot the problem.

Regards,
Paga
The only issue I have with any of those files is your referring to 'yoda', yet never defining it.

Beyond that, I can't see any real issues.

You should be able resolve:
nexxtgeneration.net
www.nexxtgeneration.net
nexxtgeneration.org
www.nexxtgeneration.org

After fixing Yoda, restart your name server, check /var/log/messages for any strange 'named' related errors, and then try it again.
