In the management processor, go to SL and filter for level 3 events.

BTW, what model of HP server is it? If it is the 16xx class, I bet the issue is either with a fan or the lid switch.
We have an HP server with itanium processor IA64.
our operating system is "Red Hat Linux Advanced Server release 2.1AS (Derry)
Kernel 2.4.18-e.41smp on an ia64". Sometemis server is close down without giving any error message. I am dba of the system. I have asked Linux Admin colleague. He told me he suspected that the problem was related kernel version. in this version there is a bug associated to mark_clean function. is it possible the server to close because of kernel.

It's possible, but I had a experience with itanium systems where the operating system shutted down because of a blower problem. You should contact hardware support to verify the server, specially blowers and fans.

Shalom,

These systems have in general a GSP or CSP management port.

You should be able to connect to it and SL, which will show logs.

This poroblem could be triggered by a kernel issue, except there would probably be a dump or some evidence in /var/log/messages.

I suspect there is a hardware issue and GSP/CSP is the way to find out what is really going on.

SEP
