    <description>Hi,  &lt;BR /&gt;A customer have a linux system where the sda disk failed that is the Operating system.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I am planning install a new OS , the same version than the failed in the OS.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;After I am planning to do a restore using the tape where is the full backup of the  the system , &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Is this a good procedure or there is some other sugestion.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;To do the restore after the installed system , I need to boot in some special mode , I meant single user or maintenance mode ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;W:S</description>

      <description>Hi&lt;BR /&gt;To restore its advisable to boot in single user mode, at boot prompt do:&lt;BR /&gt;linux single&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;And then restore the backup.&lt;BR /&gt;What type of backup is there tar, cpio etc.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Rgds</description>

      <description>Backup type is cpio.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The option that are permited if I remember in the version 7.xx is rescue .&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If the new disk drive have not partition , how I do that , that is the reason that I was thinking to install the OS and then after do the restore,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Or do you want to say that I do the installation with the CD and after boot in single user and restore with the tape.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;W.S</description>
