R.O, I'll like to know how you were able to resolve this problem below:

there is a directory (/var/spool/clientmqueue) full of files. How can I avoid the creation of these files and why they are been created?

You later said 'Finally I discovered that these mails are being generated by snmp traps by the ILO remote card. I am investigating these traps prior deactivate its generation.'

I'm having similar challenges and would like to know how you resolved yours. My sendmail is not set to listen to qdaemon connections, anytime i send mail, it gets queued in this dir rather than sending it.

Thks, B.O.

Why you have a lot of files into (/var/spool/clientmqueue? Because some programs are trying to send emails, but linux cannot send them for some reason.
So you have two options - (1) or re-configure these programs in order to stop emails or (2) fix your email server congiguration.

1)read /var/spool/clientmqueue/* files and you'll understand which programs send email.
2) start sendmail or delete /etc/mail/submit.cf
[http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1001156]

Rgds,
Vitaly

Thanks Vitaly, the second option you suggested worked fine. I deleted submit.cf on each client. After, sendmail would not start - message that 'submit.cf needed by all'. So, i edited /etc/mail/Makefile and commented out the line 'CFFILES = sendmail.cf submit.cf'. Restarted sendmail and it started fine. Mail messages go out now rather than being queued in clientmqueue. Thks. B.O

Great, I'm happy to hear that!

But when I suggested you to remove submit.cf, I supposed that you don't want to run sendmail. If sendmail is up, submit.cf doesn't hinder.

Shalom,

The real issue to deal with is the snmp traps on the iLo card.

Its generating mails that can not be delivered. You should look at a few of the mails and see if the problem is real or can be ignored.

Then change the snmp configuration on iLo to generate mail appropriately.

After this, configure the system to send mail to an appropriate source. Whether or not sendmail is running does not matter, because a system with sendmail running is quite capable of sending mail with the sendmail binary.

Its not well known, but the main purpose of the sendmail daemon is to receive mail.

SEP
