Adding more RAM to my Linux server

I'm adding more RAM to my RHAS 2.1 from 2.0GB to 4.0GB - Once the RAM has been added, do I need to do anything with the kernel to recognize the added RAM or do I need to run any commands?

You don't have to do anything if you go to 4 GB memory. If you add more memory then 4 GB you need to install a kernel with large memory support.

Ivan - Thanks for your response. If that was the case, and let's say I added a total of 12GB of RAM. I would like to know what and how do I need to do for the kernel to recognize the newly added RAM?

In this case you just need to install another kernel package (IIRC, kernel-hugemem).

You may need to increase swap to make sure its at least half of RAM.
