    <description>hi,&lt;BR /&gt; thanx for ur reply.i will try to keep those share directories in other than root.thats Ok&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;but the problem is other windows and linux users r not able to access my shares.they r not even able to see my shares.&lt;BR /&gt;i have given the details i have enterd in smb.conf file above. pls &lt;BR /&gt;check them and tell me any modifications r required&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>1- Some linux distro don't support the mount -t smbfs option and the command:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;mount -t cifs&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Should be used instead.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;2- You are sharing directories under the /root directory. The /root directory is very restricted talking about permissions. You should use another directory for data sharing.</description>

      <description>Shalom,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;try server = security&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;workgroup = mygroup&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Is the group the actual workgroup or domain name in your organization?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;This needs to be fixed for windows clients to work right.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;SEP</description>

      <description>hi SEP,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;actually my system is in LAN...&lt;BR /&gt;so &lt;BR /&gt;i donno exacltly what we have to specify for "workgroup"&lt;BR /&gt;thats Y i kept it as "Mygroup".&lt;BR /&gt;i have attached the smb.conf file in the above reply....&lt;BR /&gt;pls kindly check that and tell me what modifications i need to do ??&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and u told that to use server=security&lt;BR /&gt;if at all we use dis option we have to use the passwd file.then it would be problem for me to tell the passwd to every one.i want the share to be "ananymous"</description>

      <description>the workgroup is just a local name so you can name it how you want(name of departmen which is sharing informations, name of company, it doesn't matter it's just local service).&lt;BR /&gt;But to have access from windows the station must be in that group...&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;for more info there is very easy to read howto &lt;A href="http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/&lt;/A&gt;</description>

      <description>Shalom,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If there is a windows domain controller, then find out from the admin what the default domain or workgroup is.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Make sure the setting in smb.conf matches.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If there is not a central domain controller then make sure the workgroup settings in smb.conf match all the clients.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;SEP</description>
