Hi Jorge,

We currently do not have a solution. This past weekend we were plagued by ASM restarts and we're currently looking at upgrade to 10.1.0.4 to see if Oracle has fixed that bug with in that version. So far it seems to occur when CPU utilization is high on the server.

Sorry I don't have any better news for you,

Eric

Greetings,

I hope this is the right spot to post a question about Oracle 10g and ASM. I apologize in advance.

Does anyone here seen or heard of an ASM restarting itself? So far, this is the only time I've seen our ASM restarting itself for no apparent reason.

Any ideas where I can look for help on this forum or some logs at the OS level?

Thank you in advance.
Jorge
Shalom Jorge,

ASM will restart itself if clustered and there has been a failure, which the cluster monitor script detects and corrects.

Otherwise it should just stay stopped.

Either way you should check the alert and other relavent logs for problems. Also check and see if cron did it.

SEP

We've had a few unexplained ASM restarts in our 4 node Oracle 10G r1 RAC Cluster. This only occurred with one node and not all 4. We opened a TAR with Oracle and they think its bug id 4477387. They reference a work around in bug id 4462367 that required these steps

1) make a backup copy of init.crsd script
2) please add 'ulimit -n unlimited' to init.crsd immediately after 'ulimit -c unlimited'

Hope this is helpful,

Eric
I must have made the Oracle gods angry with that last post; we just experienced another ASM restart on one node at our site. It's been a few weeks since this has last happened.

Obviously the above workaround was not a fix.

Eric
Oh, NO!! Sorry! Eric - Can you verify this bug id or if you have a link to this work around, I'd love to see it and try it myself. If I find something else out, I will return the favor.

Thanks for your help.

Jorge.

You can bring up the bug report on metalink.oracle.com

Our DBA updated our TAR with Oracle and we'll see what their response is to this last ASM restart.
