Shalom,

The warning isn't about file permissions. Its about directory permissions. chmod 1777 /var/spool/mail

Then new files created there will have proper permissions.

I thought however the permissions should be tighter than that. Read the message carefully.

SEP

Hi there --

I am periodically getting error messages indicating the /var/spool/mail directory is vulnerable, and should have a permissions setting of 1777. I did some initial checking and I had changed the ownership of the directory from root:mail to mail:mail. The file permissions are now are 775. How would I change the permissions to correctly match those of the suggested values? Thanks.

Doing this may help,

chown root:mail /var/spool/mail
chmod 42775 /var/spool/mail
