Cannot read from device ([87] The parameter is incorrect. ) - DP5.5

I have configured 2 windows 2003 servers ( on the SAN , all with DP5.5 agents. I have imported the hosts and created backup spefications ,however, any attempt to backup fails after loading the tape, with the following messages.
