Hi,

I am a little confused and I hope someone can clear something up for me.

We have recently migrated from a PA-RISC server running 11.11 to an Itanium server running 11.23.

When we were on 11.11 we successfully had chroot working for ftpusers and we were using "ftpd".

Now that we have moved to 11.23, we are still using "ftpd" and chroot is not working.

Everything I read on the forums and in our procedure to create chroot mention either "vsftpd" or "wu-ftpd" version 2.6.1. Is "ftpd" not supported on 11.23? Is "wu-ftpd" and "ftpd" the same thing?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Andrew

Normally, HP-UX's ftpd is requires the configuration of the ftpaccess file. Have you configured that file correctly?

Ensure that you /etc/inetd.conf file has a line like this:

ftp stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/lbin/ftpd ftpd -al

The -a option is very importand and indicates the use of the ftpaccess file, then see:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1043408

Shalom,

There is a known bug in wuftpd which sometimes interferes with chroot and blocking foot ftp access. You may need a binary patch.

vsftpd which has an excellent chroot mechanism does not work on HP-UX.

You have two supported choices on 11.23, wuftpd which comes with the OS and Proftpd which is part of the Internet Express Package from http://software.hp.com

ftpd is the process that runs when an ftp session is open.

SEP
