Shalom,

There is great data on this at http://www.sendmail.org

I'd set up smart host on the old sendmail server, pointing to the new one.

The new one needs to have entries limiting relay in the /etc/mail/access file so that spammers don't try and use it to relay their mail.

Never have your firewall ip address as ok for relay in the access file, it can make you a spam magnet.

I'll watch this thread and help you with specific questions as you go along.

SEP

Hi all,

I have to put a SMTP gateway in front of our old Sendmail server which handles all sending/receiving for domain.com, also POP and IMAP connections. The gateway will be RHEL4.

I'd like the gateway to handle all RBL checking, etc. before passing it onto the new internal server if possible, and have added that to the sendmail.mc file already.

From what I've read, the gateway will have an entry in the Mailertable file like:
domain.com smtp:[12.34.12.34]

Is that all for the gateway other then changing that hostname (some clients only allow connection from our current server name)?

I'm unsure as to what changes I need to do on the old server. Do I set it up to SMART_HOST the gateway server?

Thanks for any help. I'll supply more info if I've confused anyone.

Chris
