Hi,

I have just installed redhat linux 6.2 on my IBM machine. I have created a user ORACLE and added a group dba to it. I am trying to log in to X windows(gnome editor) and it will not let me log in. It comes back to the login screen again. Logging as root is fine on X windows.

I tried to log in from the shell prompt and it logs in but, says

warning: your password will expire in -1 days
Last login: Wed Oct 9 15:09:00 on :0
bash$

I never had this problem before in creating a user. Please someone throw some light.

Thanks,
Deep.

Hi,
You should have a trouble with xdm.
The best thoing to do is to check in logs what is the error you get whaen you try to connect.
If it's "cannot open DISPLAY...."
then this is a trouble with xauth, xhost...
try xhost + as root before connecting as oracle.
About -1 days, it just means there is no limit for this user to use his password..

hope that help
Benoit
