Hi,

If I were you, I would not use ext3 with RedHat 7.2, because I'm not sure it is stable enough in that kernel version (2.4.7 or 2.4.9). If this is possible, consider RedHat 7.3.

If you still want ext3 with RedHat 7.2, I would suggest that the root filesystem be in ext2, and other data files created with journalling. After installing the system and BEFORE configuring the application data filesystems, consider upgrading the kernel to 2.4.18. To do so, go to :

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/7.2/en/os/i686

However, make sure that you have the appropriate drivers for all "non-standard" peripherals, like gigabit ethernet, RAID controller or fibre channel HBAs.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I just upgraded a DL380 with a SmartArray 3200 from RedHat 7.1 to 7.2 and it failed to boot. The last few errors include:

mount: error 19 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
Kernel Panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

I've searched all the newsgroups, tech docs and whatever else you can imagine and I can't find any solution to this problem. I later installed 7.2 from scratch, creating and formatting all the partitions anew and got the same problem.

Has anybody seen this? Any ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks for your time and help,

Marc

Hi,

is the ext3 file system support avaialble in the newly built kernel.
my doubt is that it is unable to mount the ext3 root filesystem
1. try using ext2 file system as root.
2. boot through a resuce cd, chroot to the root disk, re-compile the kernel with ext3 support and try rebooting.

hth
-balaji
