Samba hanging problem

Hello Experts

I am running Samba on Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon Update 8) and users are using thru winodows work station and intermittently their access hangs, Please find attached the messages from /var/log/messages.

Las time I had problems with Red Hat Samba, I downloaded the latest samba version from SAMBA.org (rpms for red hat available) and the problems went away.

is that problem started recently?Any recent changes on like kernel upgrade?

uname -a
cat /etc/redhat-release.

Also it is better to keep a new version..Still dont leave any other possibilities...

Are the file systems data belongs to internal disks or SAN?

you should get a new version of samba. This bug should be fixed in a newer version of samba.

Which version should I go far?
we are using NAS for file systems.

Hello,

you can check if RedHat has a newer Version fÃ¼r RHEL3. I would prefer these Packages from SerNet.

ftp://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/rhel3-i386

But remember: RedHat doesn't support those packages. Use them on you own risk. The packaged are stable, but not supported by RedHat.

I use often Packages from SerNet under SUSE or RHEL and had no problems till today.

Just noticed your kernel is 2.4.21-47.ELsmp .

We had an ftp problem with this kernel and often the file transfer hangs in between or just after starting. We had to switch to kernel 2.4.21-32.0.1.ELsmp and everything is OK now. To me it looks like you have a similar issue.

if you have a chance do some testing with this 21-32 kernel.We had a kernel panic issue with 21-27 and when upgraded to 21-47 the ftp problem appeared.We are now OK with 21-30
