topic Filesystem usage in Operating System - Linux

Gentlemen,

How is it possible that my bdf output shows usage on a filesystem but when but I "cd" into that filesystem there is absolutely nothing. I can I recover the files? The server runs HP-UX 10.20

rgds

Olebile

Hi Olebile,

What kind of usage are you seeing? In an empty filesystem there will be some blocks used for a little bit of LVM overhead. If you have a large percentage of the filesystem used but no files show up, you could have a situation where some files have been deleted but some processes were holding the files open, which means the space wouldn't be freed up until the process finishes.

Can you post a sample of the bdf output you are looking at?

JP
By the way, we are in a Linux forum, and your question is about HP-UX. You might want to post your question over on one of the HP-UX forums. You'll probably get a lot more responses over there! :)

JP
