I'm not sure what you mean by 'ITO', but I take it that you're wanting to know which processes should always be running?

Depending in the purpose of the box (i.e. is it a web server? a mail server?) obviously depends on which processes are required to handle such things.

Core processes that are always running on a RH7.1 box are mostly kernel processes (such as:
keventd
kapm-ideld
kswapd
kreclaimd
bdflush
kupdated
mdrecoveryd
khupd)

For the record, I've never seen any of these processes die, and don't think they actually can (being kernel level).

Other than that, things like 'init', and 'xinetd' (the super-daemon) would normally be running.

Beyond that, it depends what services you're offering as to which processes will always be active.

You??re right; I don??t know yet which is the purpose of the box. I??m going to wait to know it. For "ITO" I mean "Vantage Point". Thank for your help. Regards
