Hi there –

I have recently set up a server running MailScanner, SpamAssassin, and Clam AntiVirus with Sendmail. Additionally, I have installed the Dovecot IMAP/POP server. I did not make any changes to the /etc/dovecot.conf file, and I was able to start the daemon up without a problem. I ran a netstat –l command, and the server has imap, imaps, pop3, and pop3s listed in LISTEN states.

The problem is as follows: When I try to log into SquirrelMail, I get the following error message:

Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost.
13 : Permission denied

What is causing this error, and what step(s) do I need to take to correct it? Thanks.

This can occur if your system is configured with SELINUX.

Try this command:
setsebool httpd_can_network_connect=1

OR

setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect=1

to make the change permanent, even after reboot.

Good Luck!

Shalom,

1) service dovecot stats (start if not running). restart anyway.
2) check /var/log/maillog for other errors.
3) Depending on how you connect you may need to read and change dovecot.conf
4) Permissions on the user home directory may be wrong. Or ownership. A lot of times this comes from user root owning the home directory of the user or the mail file

SEP
Proud Squirrelmail admin
