Hi,

I want to login or run rsh from hpux 9000 server to a linux machine.
I configure ./rhosts and /etc/hosts files, but I have not permission ...
rlogin narda
rcmd: connect: narda: Connection refused
If I try from linux to hpux, I can login.!!

Is the rlogin service enabled in linux ?

You might want to consider using SSH instead.

I have exactly the same setup and SSH setup is both easy and secure. Once it is setup you just substitute rsh or remsh for ssh and everything works perfectly.

I have two machines with linux, same version.
In both I can do rlogin, but in one ask me for password.
In both the ./rhosts are identical.
Are there any other config file ???
In this machine, I can't run ntsysv ..
-bash: ntsysv: command not found

I edit the files in /etc/xinetd.d and restart the service.

Hello Daniel,

Make sure that the name lookup service is properly configured on both machines. If you are not using DNS, check /etc/hosts and /etc/nsswitch.conf on both machines.

(I learned this in a Hp-ux course few years ago :-)

I compare both files, and are identical.
But from one machine I can't do a rlogin because askme for a password.....
Any other idea ??

Now that you fixed it turn off rlogin and start using ssh

Its a serious security problem and totally unecessary to use rlogin.

Do you really trust your firewall administrator enough to not do as I suggest?

Do you trust each and every user of your network?
