      <description>Generally on a recent system, the file systems will be mounted by label, i.e.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If you boot from a rescue CD of some kind, you should be able to find it fairly easily, and fix the fstab.</description>

      <description>boot from a rescue CD &lt;BR /&gt;do fdisk -l  ( this will list all the partiotions)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;mount each of the linux partitions at some location by the contents of the mountpoint you can tell whether it is root partion or not.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>is the server still up?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Compare to the o/p of mount -l . That gives a mapping between the device/partition to the mount point.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;from mount -l&lt;BR /&gt;/dev/sda9 on / type ext3 (rw) [/]&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;in fstab&lt;BR /&gt;LABEL=/                 /                       ext3    defaults        1 1</description>
