Shalom,

Good SNMP software is provided by PSP.

You can find updated versions of these packages on the redhat support website or the centos support website. They are available for IA64 in both places.

SEP

I have quite a few HP Itanium systems running Red Hat Linux 4AS.
Included in the PSP (or what ever it is called on Itanium) are HP's version of the net-snmp packages, but they are old and I've not been able to locate newer versions of the packages.

[root@rek-oradb-p03 ~]# rpm -q net-snmp
net-snmp-5.1.2-11.EL4.6hp

The reason Im asking is that all those systems are red in RHN, critical security updates are available and they are newer net-snmp packages from Red Hat.

I tried to remove the HP versions but apparently some SIM packages depend on them so Im stuck explaining to my superiors why I apparently neglect to keep my systems up2date :)
That is the problem exactly. Red Hat has newwr packages available that fix critical security problems in the net-snmp software.
However, the HP versions are there on the machines and I cant remove them because the HP software depends on them.

[root@rek-oradb-p03 ~]# rpm -q net-snmp
net-snmp-5.1.2-11.EL4.6hp

Notice the version there, ending in "hp"

In RHN the version available is:

net-snmp 5.1.2 11.el4_6.11.2Pkg

When I try to update or remove I get:

hp-snmp is needed by (installed) hpima-3.8-12.rhel4.ia64

And because this is an Itanium system and not a Proliant the PSP is not the software Im using, but the ISP (Itanium Support Pack) and it's already at it's latest version.

These IA64 machines have been like this for a long time now and I grow tired of explaining this to my superiors on a regular basis :)
