ESX Server will not boot from hard disk after new array is created

I have ESX 3.01 running on a DL380 G4. There were 2 free drive bays and I needed to add more storage so I added new disks and rebooted into smartstart (as there is no ACU for ESX server). I created a new array and logical drive and rebooted the server.

On reboot the server would not boot from hard disk, it went straight into boot from ROM. I checked in the BIOS and it does have the correct boot order set and the correct RAID controller card order (exactly as before, when it was working perfectly). The only way I could get it to boot from hard disk was by booting from smartstart again and selecting the "boot from hard disk" option at the menu.

Is there something new that needs to be added in the grub.conf? Or am I missing a trick somewhere else?

Did you somehow end up with the new array you created marked as array 0 and the old one as array 1?

I don't think so, is it possible to see without booting into ACU again? In HPSMH the old array is called Logical Drive 1 and the new array is Logical Drive 2
