Although anything that works under RedHat should work under CentOS, many of the HP driver sets read the /etc/redhat-release file to ensure a supported OS is installed, and just quit if not.

I would suggest copying this file off a running RedHat server while you install the driver you mention in step three.

Plugged the HP StorageWorks Ultrium960 to my HP DL380G4 server with scsi cable, at startup, the smary array found the tape.
2. After login the CentOS4.5, "dmesg|grep scsi" show no tape attached and "lsmod|grep st" show nothing.
3. Then, I download from HP website the package "cpq_cciss-2.6.18-10.rhel4.i686.rpm", at installation, it should wrong distribution, nothing update to linux boot loader.

I want to know if the above procedure missed anything, or any other method I could follow.

thank you for your help.

Regards,

Stanley

Hi Stanley,

Connecting any tape drive to a SmartArray card isn't recommended.

Get hold of a Ultra320 SCSI card and attach the tape drive to that instead. You should then see the relevant st device.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Rob
