can anyone tell me what is trusted system and what is the use of /etc/shadow

For /etc/shadow - this is another level of security. Only root users has access to hashed passwords, stored in this file.

Trusted System is a HP-UX concept. HP-UX versions prior to 11.31 ship with a conversion script that does something similar to /etc/shadow on Linux.

This technology was replaced with a more Linux like technology in HP-UX 11.31 and should be considered obsolete, as in having no future.
