Hi Folks,

I have downloaded RedHat Linux ISO images ie, disc1, disc2, disc3 from the RedHat site. Now i need to install it, for which i need to make it bootable. Any idea how to make it.

I have already created a bootable floppy disk and have installed the same with copying the 3 ISO images on the HDD via partition, it was a success.

But if anyone can tell me how to make bootable CD that will be a great help.

I tried copied the ISO image in ISO9660 format to CD but it does not boot. ie. using the mount command in iso9660 format.

Regards,
Dayanand Naik.
You downloaded the ISO images, yes?

If you used 'cdrecord' or some Windows application (which can write ISO images), then the first disk should already be bootable.

The El Torito (bootable) images are incorporated into the ISO standard (thus creating a bootable CD image (ISO) is done prior to burning a CD).

How did you burn the disks with?

With windows all you need do on a machine with a burner is double click on the ISO file. Then the burn software walks you through setting up the burn.

You can get this functionality on Linux with gtoaster.

P

To boot from the CD you will have to change the BIOS boot sequence to go to CDrom first.
Default in BIOS is normally A: if nothing there then C: if nothing there Then CD.
How you get to your BIOS is different for every motherboard manufactor. Most will do While booting and before going to A: drive hit the F10 key repeatadly. some are F7 or F8 but some have some key board combination.

Good luck
