In RHL you have tools like 'rhnupdate' and 'yum'. 'yum --help' or 'man yum' gives you more info.
A customer recently has installed RHL, she was working with Suse got used to use YAST. Now she wants to know if it is an utility in RHL that works as YAST does in Suse.

What do you know about it?

Thanks,

Javier

Red Hat does not have a tool with YAST like functionality

I do agree with Jimmy Vance, YaST is so cool/good, esp YaST's Package Manager is far much better then redhat's.

Agree that YAST is a great tool. For red hat, you don't have a central tool. You do have system-config-* tools. Also, you can use other tools like webmin.

Thanks to everyone of you!

That's right RHL doesn't have a central tool as Suse, so it's not as "friendly" as many people would like it to be.

We finally had to do a cold install and then select all the packages our customer needed. It was the fastest way to get the server ready. The other way, resolving all the dependencies by hand, would take so much time.

Regards,

Javier

yes, a bit true.

But you can use YUM to resolve dependency from RHEL 5.

Shalom,

HP-UX has sam, Suse has yast.

No equivalent with RHL.

But taken together the system-config tools really do provide everything you need to administer a system.

Interesting ITRC forums handle. cron.

Syadmin's best buddy.

SEP
