no, no, the chassis takes only 4 disks. it seems hp just made a good deal with our technical sales, by adding the pci-x kit and the 8 port hba instead of pci-express and 4 port.

thanks for the mpt-status tip btw!

mpt-status will tell you this:

ioc0 vol_id 0 type IM, 2 phy, 148 GB, state OPTIMAL, flags ENABLED
ioc0 phy 1 scsi_id 1 ATA GB0160EAEZH HPG1, 149 GB, state ONLINE, flags NONE
ioc0 phy 0 scsi_id 2 ATA GB0160EAEZH HPG1, 149 GB, state ONLINE, flags NONE

It comes with an mpt-statusd which will e-mail you if the status changes.

I wonder-- what is the difference between a SAS1068 and SAS1064E and why does your DL160 have the former while mine have the latter?

Yeah, I found that in the mean time. Still doesn't explain why my DL160s have the 4-port version while yours get the 8-port version. Or do you have some freaky version of it that will take 8 disks and doesn't show up on hp.com so far as I can tell?
