su problem

Hello,
when I am doing su I am getting the below

daphne:/mnt1/users/gniko>su -
Password:
setgroups: Not owner
setgroups: Not owner
su: Unable to initialize group access list

wild guess!

Do you have a valid /etc/passwd and /etc/group file?

I've never seen this but it would freak me out if I got it.

How does the system work besides this? Is it doing its job or is it just taking up space?

Hi,

DO you have any user/group restriction defined
for su usage in your system ?

Check /etc/pam.d/su file and Paste here .

Also give this command as root and check for the problem again.

#chmod +s /bin/su

Do
man group
man initgroups
man setgroups

and check /etc/logingroup.

just do su and goto /root directory, and lookinto .bash_profile and .bashrc for setgroups,,,,,, and hash them
