Hi, we've installed ESX 3.5 on a pair of dl385 g5 servers with the P400 controller doing simple raid 1 arrays.

One server just won't respond correctly and keeps showing in the Virtual Center as disconnected, even though I can ping it and I can use the VI Client to connect directly to the server.

I found a utility called arrayprobe by searching the forums. I get this output from arrayprobe using the -r option (see below). It says there's an inconsistent stripe - sounds bad, but what does it mean and what additional troubleshooting should I perform?

[root@vmext79 root]# arrayprobe -r -f /dev/cciss/c0d0
Retrieving logical drive information from controller /dev/cciss/c0d0
Number of logical volumes (00 00 00 08) : 1
Controller /dev/cciss/c0d0 reports 1 logical drives
Logical drive 0 found on controller /dev/cciss/c0d0
Event code 5/0/0 with tag 1
at 3-17-2009 09:29:42
with message: State change, logical drive 0
logical drive 0, changed from state 2 to 0
state 2: Logical drive is not configured
state 0: Logical drive is ok

Event code 5/2/0 with tag 1
at 3-21-2009 19:04:23
with message: Parity/consistency initialization complete, logical drive 0

Event code 5/2/3 with tag 2
at 3-23-2009 23:25:31
with message: Inconsistent stripe, LDrv=0 LBA=0x0003F6D00-0x0003F6DFF

Event code 5/2/3 with tag 1
at 3-25-2009 08:28:44
with message: Inconsistent stripe, LDrv=0 LBA=0x0003F6D00-0x0003F6DFF

Event code 5/2/3 with tag 2
at 3-30-2009 01:48:22
with message: Inconsistent stripe, LDrv=0 LBA=0x0006A0F00-0x0006A0FFF

Event code 0/0/0
with message: No events to report.

Logical drive 0 on controller /dev/cciss/c0d0 has state 0
OK Arrayprobe All controllers ok
