Lets say I have this config.
The two LD's were 1+0 converted to 0
I want to remove the two unused PD's from the LD's replace them with new larger capactiy PD's and then use them to create a new LD with the expanded space. Then I will copy over the data from one of the LD's to the new LD and continue on...

Can anyone tell me how to remove the two PD's from the two LD's?

=> ctrl slot=0 show config
Smart Array 5i in Slot 0 ()
array A (Parallel SCSI, Unused Space: 69461 MB)

logicaldrive 1 (67.8 GB, RAID 0, OK)

physicaldrive 1:0 (port 1:id 0 , Parallel SCSI, 72.8 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 2:0 (port 2:id 0 , Parallel SCSI, 72.8 GB, OK)

array B (Parallel SCSI, Unused Space: 69461 MB)

logicaldrive 2 (67.8 GB, RAID 0, OK)

physicaldrive 1:1 (port 1:id 1 , Parallel SCSI, 72.8 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 2:1 (port 2:id 1 , Parallel SCSI, 72.8 GB, OK)

Thanks

Hi,

if you are sure that moving to RAID0 is only using 1 of the physical drives in each of the logical drivesets, you may be able to use the ACUCLI utility (if you have BBWC attached ) to expand the drive. I'm not sure how this would work on a RAID 0 single drive (unless you are doing something with spare drives.

I have done the above with 0+1 drives, but not sure of best route for you to preserve your data on the RAID0 device.

Also not sure how the second disks are present in the config, as logical drive is only 67GB and not using both drives. Is the second drive in each LD a spare?

regards

Shalom,

You are using hardware raid on a DL class server.

IF you have two drives, you can configure them as 1 logical raid zero volume.

However there will always be two physical drives present in your system.

I strongly recommend against leaving your system booting to a single raid 0 volume. If either disk goes out, your system is dead, likely with total loss of configuration of data.

Better plan is to lay your hands on some more disk and continue to boot off raid 1 configuration.

SEP
