Josef makes a valid point.

XEN is CPU dependent. It does not run on certain laptops. It may very well not work on Integrity.

But that question would have to be answered by the XEN open source people.

Anyone successfully run XEN on Integrity?
hi all,
I have a Redhat host OS on a HP Integrity rx 3600 , I have installed all required rpms for the XEN kernel. the issue I have is when I reboot the ia-64 server , it correctly reboots the server but the kernel loads but does not bring up the login whereas on the ia64 kernel without the xen packages it functions correctly, any ideas to troubleshoot will be highly appreciated.

Shalom,

I would suggest intervening on the boot prompt and going into single user mode.

Can you assist us with the version of RHEL the host system is running on?

You may find a yum update will assist in finding and installing updated rpms.

SEP

I have googled out the following document. To me it looks like RedHat was working to make XEN virtualization functional (preview was included in the OS back in 2007). So it is pretty much possible that today this may be working on Integrity.

http://docs.hp.com/en/4AA1-4405ENW/4AA1-4405ENW.pdf

There are some known issues and troubleshooting tips included.

J.

If you want to do virtualization on Integrity, you have to run HPVM under HP-UX. Then you can run Linux, HP-UX, Windows guests.

As I suspected earlier and Maaz confirms, no Xen on Itanium.

Dennis points out correctly that HPVM under HP-UX provides a virtualization alternative.

Very good to have cleared up this issue.

You may wish to consider assigning points to the answers that you found helpful. I'd give Maaz 10 points if it were my question.

SEP
