Shalom,

Can not help you with the Windows stuff.

Red Hat Cluster Suite Support will have to be purchased. A single purchase will cover this configuration plus a lab if you want to build it.

Red Hat Clustering Requires some kind of Fence device. A fence device prevents the two nodes of the cluster from simultaneously accessing data and corrupting it.

Here is a document covering fencing options. Your Blade Center if produced by HP has an iLo card and that should be a pretty good fence device.

http://magazine.redhat.com/2007/08/23/automated-failover-and-recovery-of-virtualized-guests-in-advanced-platform/

http://www.google.co.il/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=6&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.repton.co.uk%2Flibrary%2Fhp_best_practices_for_oracle11g_hpblades_eva.pdf&ei=Dk18So_aG5SC_Ab72-TnBw&usg=AFQjCNEaAEAwcCYXK1trRK5rinPn7RWRiA&sig2=y7OV4OMYgXiq36xr3fcv3A

Sorry about the google url but sometimes google acts that way in Israel.
Hi,

I am purchasing a data centre that includes EVA, SAN, MSL Library, 13 BladeSystem servers etc ... After the order is made, the customer is now asking me that he would use Red Hat Linux on 10 of the Blade servers and MS Windows on the 3 remaining. He said he would want me to setup 3 Oracle Database clusters, 2 blade servers being used for each cluster.

Now I have to send another order for Linux and cluster software.

Giving the scenario above I would like you to help me list the new items I have to put in my quotation.

Best Regards,
Berag

Thanks for your reply.

How many licenses do I need to install 10 blade servers with Red Hat Linux ?

How and where to order those licenses ?

Would HP service Guard Cluster package not better for clustering Oracle Database on RedHat Linux than any other cluster method ?

Regards,
Berenger
Oracle Databases Clusters, if using RAC, "require" no additional clustering software, as they have their own clustering mechanisms in the software.

Unless you have some other reasons, Serviceguard and/or RedHat ClusterSuite is not needed.

You will need 10 Redhat Enterprise Linux licenses. Those can be purchased from whichever RedHat reseller you choose.

You will also need to be aware of the Oracle Licensing models for multicore machines, as it gets tricky. I would suggest discussing the blade specifications with your Oracle Software Representative.

At a base installation, you will need 10 RHEL licenses (support levels can vary by your requirements), and whatever number of Oracle Licenses is deemed by your Oracle Rep.
