Officejet 6500 scanner backend

sane-find-scanner finds my scanner but scanimage -L does not find it.

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

The scanner was working fine with the same Fedora Core 6 system I'm using. But my hard drive crashed and I had to install the OS on a new drive. I had this same problem before but finally found the backend driver that allowed the scanner to work.

Does anyone know where the driver may be found?

I tried installing hplip which seems to be the driver needed. The hp-check produced the following log file. I'm going on the second week now trying to get this scanner working :)

If anybody has a clue that I might try pleas respond.

SUCCESS

I found and downloaded the dependencies causing the errors then was able to compile and install hplip from the website linked in the hp-check output.

There is no README in the package but it installs with the following command line input:

./configure

make install
