Shalom Brian,

First thing you want to learn as an HP-UX admin is how to CYA(Cover your a--).

Before you do something important to a HP-UX server, learn to use Ignite.

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-6584/5992-6584.pdf

SEP

Greetings!

I am moving to the linux team from HP-UX. I have good experience in HP-UX and i hope to use those skills to learn Linux(Redhat) fast. I am hearing lot of the term"Satellite Servers" on the linux team call. Could someone explain what this could be? Also please point me good docs for Linux RH.Thanks again for all the help and time.

Best Regards

Brian.

means two things to me ( the second it probable the case)

1) a group of servers located remotely

2) Redhat has a product they sell called satellite something.. Used to create your own RHN server(s) ( aka, provisioning and patch/update repo)

(or they have actually launched some servers into space and they are currently in orbit somewhere ;)
If you're coming from HP-UX or any UNIX for that matter - then adjusting to Redhat Linux Enterprise OS will be a breeze for you. 99% of our woes or finding equivalents on Linux can be quickly culled from Google.

Satellite Server or Redhat Network Satellite server means a system management server that runs the full set of the Red Hat Network framework (very pricey -- which means your enterprise is bound to get serious and empply efficiencies with your Redhat Linux Server ecosystem).

Redhat Network is a management and administration framework that basically allows your enterprise easier deployment, management and monitoring of your Linux servers. It allows for far more efficient systems and network administration, patch and software management, etc - that you notmally do via your subscription at the global Redhat Network system -- albeit - with more control from your enterprise.

Please peruse of the URL http://www.redhat.com/red_hat_network/

Lots of Information and ecen video demos there.
> [...] Could someone explain [...]

Why not ask someone who used the term? (I
know that it may sound radical, but it might
work. Decide whether you would rather sound
ignorant or stay ignorant.)
