topic HP ThinPro GT mouse moves but doesn't select in Operating System - Linux

I've connected to a SUSE linux 9.2, but after some time the screens blank out leaving only one (of 4) screen with a 'User' entry box. I can move the mouse to the box, but I can't type into it nor can I select anything else on the screen. It may be something to do with the screen saver or some other timeout.
