rh5 on rx4640

After creating a new redhat 5 system disk the old system disk will not boot. The boot loaded EFI does not find an OS. If I generate another new redhat system disk the two original disks will not boot.

Please explain exactly what you have done.

Trying to piece things together from the minimal information you've provided will be impossible.

Rob,

We are trying to update the OS, on one of our systems, from Red Hat 3 to Red Hat 5. The system is a HP Rx4640. Our systems need to have the latest updates on them. This system cannot be connected to the internet, so once we do the upgrade we cannot do a yum. What we tried to do was to take a disk from a machine no longer used and put it in another machine which does have access to the internet. We installed Red Hat 5 and did the update. Everything worked fine. We went to install the original disk back in the machine and it said it can't fine an OS. We put the disk we just built back in and it worked fine. We then rebuilt the original disk and did an update and it was ok. We then put the disk we first built back in and we get the message "no OS found". It seems like somewhere it is remembering some type of ID of the disk and will not boot up another disk.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated
