Hi Folks,

Good day!

I have this one machine ProLiant DL580 G2, running old redhat.

We have this utility program called Survey installed to detect failures on the hardware present on the system.

Today, I received an alert from my trusty bigbrother monitoring, the issues are following. It states:

361,362c361
< Spare Status: Online spare rebuilt
< Spare Status: Online spare activated
---
> Spare Status: Online spare NOT activated

Now the problem is, I don't know what this error relates to, I reckoned it is the disk, but i'm not sure where to start, what to check and so on.

Hope Linux guru here can provide me with some infos. THanks.

Hi haneps,

I believe it is related to your hardware raid setup.

You really should check if you have a valid RAID by rebooting the box and go to the Compaq RAID utility before it boots up or use hpacucli to query the hardware raid controller from the command line.

My guess is that you had a disk failure, the spare kicked in but it is now disabled for some reason.

HTH
