Dear all,

I installed RHEL 6 32bit server in a DL 380 G4. Sometimes I received the subject message (kernel: CPU1: Temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)) and the fans starts to rotate very speedly. So I don't known how to normalize the rotation without reboot the server.

Someone can help me?

Hmm.. do yo have PSP installed?

Do you have hpasmcli?

What does: hpasmcli -s "show temp" show?

Assuming your server room's climate has not changed -- then it is likely RHEL6 has some issues with CPU Throttling.

I haven't PSP because for the moment there is only for RHEL 5.

Well RHEL 6 supposedly has built in support for HP's Dynamic CPU Capping... Have you checked if the G4 supports it in its iLO?

Sorry 'been only dealing with G6's and G7's and Big Blue "Smart-Irons" in our UNIX-away Linux Grand Plan.

I succesfully installed the hp-health package for RHEL 5 that contains hpasmcli command.
The programs seems to be running fine. I'll read the manuals to learn how to use these programs.

hpasmcli seems to be limited to set hardware. There is some commands to reset fans?

Try also installing the hpiLo packages so your OS can talk with iLo to do the needfuls.

But really -- the messages you see and will see is actually a good thing in that the OS understands the threat your CPUs are being subkejted to and is doing the needful to throttle it down and increase fan speed.

What is worrisome is if it remains that way and your fans remain on high speed even if there is really no CPU choomping processes that will make the cpus hotter than hot.

In fact, the problem is that. The funs increase its rotation and I have to reboot the machine to reduce it.

Well -- I suggest you ping HP if there is already FULL support for RHEL 6 sir. That is likely your issue. UI know everyone awaits the PSP for 6.0 too.

But I can't find the PSP at all...! The BSC still has the Sep 2010 PSP releases.

for the moment the problem seems to be related to one cpu that in quiet status has a temperature of 58C while the other one has around 40C.

In the meantime I upgraded the BIOS and I hope to solve the fan rotation.
