      <description>Remove packages "telnet-server", "rsh-server" and "vsftpd". &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;This is the surest way to disable those services, because the binaries providing the services will be completely removed from the system.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Example:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;yum erase telnet-server rsh-server vsftpd&lt;BR /&gt;or&lt;BR /&gt;rpm -e telnet-server rsh-server vsftpd&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;NOTE: the default RHEL 5 installation does not install these packages. So if you have them, you (or someone else administering the system) has chosen to enable them.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;MK</description>

      <description>by default they're not running, but if they are, you can disable them by changing the settings in their xinetd config file found in /etc/xinetd.d</description>
