Hi,

We are planning to migrate from K570 to rp5400 with HPUX 11.0.

We know that there are 2 ways
to accomplish.

1) New Install
2) IgniteUX

Which is the best method to adopt for transition from K to L class.
I would appreciate if anyone
with similar experience can
throw some light.

Thanks in advance,
Lanke

Hi,

We've done it before. The K570 will run 32-bit or 64-bit 11.0, but the rp5400 only runs 64-bit 11.0. We decided to do a new install the first time we did it, and then we copied over the files we needed. You might be able to Ignite the rp5400 from the K570, but it depends on whether or not you are running 64-bit 11.0 on the K box, and also on which boot kernel Ignite builds your archive with on the K box. Also, if you Ignite the rp5400, you'll still have to load drivers for the hardware which won't come over from the K box, so it probably works out to be easier to just do a cold install on the rp5400.

JP

P.S. You've asked this question in the Linux forum. You'll probably get more responses if you post it over on the HP-UX side.

Hi again,

In case you are interested, here is the link to a great HP page that lists which versions and bitness of the OS.

http://devrsrc1.external.hp.com/STK/serversupport.html

JP
Hi John,

Thank you for your response.
Cold Install looks good.
But we want the L box to be
the exact copy of K box.

Also, one has to load the patches separately if it is a cold install.

Can you please provide the
links or documentation for
Cold Install process.

Thanks,
Lanke

Hi Lanke,

The patches won't be too bad. You can grab the latest quarterly patch bundle and install it, along with the latest hardware enablement patches.

Here is probably a good place to start:

http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/os/11.0/index.html#Installing%20and%20Updating

JP
