Hi all,

Sorry to post this query in this section coz I cud not find the related section in ITRC.

Operating System : Novell Unixware 2.x
Hardware         : Pentium 100MHz/16MB/Hawk
PCI enet card/ Specialix
IO/8 card

Problem Desc:-
-------------------

This Server is working fine without any prob for the last many years and problem started sudddenly one day.

When I am trying to login on my novell unixware 2.0 server it gives the following error and takes me to the login prompt again .The error is as follows.

"UX : ttymon : ERROR : cannot invoke iascheme <LOGIN> : invalid argument.

OBSERVATION:-
----------------

I checked up the system date in the BIOS. BIOS date was incorrect ( it was a very previous date). I changed the system date to a new date and restarted the server. Again when I tried to login it said that the password is expired and have to retype a new password. I did so and after that also when I tried to login with the new password it throws the same error which I mentioned above.

Kindly help me to solve the issue.

Thanking you,
Syam Kumar</LOGIN>

Hi Syam,

Are you able to login with any other user ?
OR you are only facing problem with the root
login.
Are you able to login as the "system owner"
if yes & you are facing problem with the root
then you can use tfadmin(1m) to change root's password. This works on both UnixWare 1.x and 2.x:
$ /sbin/tfadmin passwd root
or to delete the root password (remember to reset it afterwards)
$ /sbin/tfadmin passwd -d root

Otherwise you need to use the emergency boot floppy (an EBF).

Regards,

Hi Imran,

Thanks a lot for ur response. I want to add some more observations for the above problem.

1) None of the logins are working on the server. All give the same error which is mentioned in my query.
At the same time if I am typing the password wrongly or I am using a non-existant user id, then the system is idientifying that it is incorrect.

2) I am able to go to the single user mode and I am getting a # prompt if I am pressing "ESCAPE" key while booting.

3) i am not having an emergency boot floppy.

Please help me in getting the server working.

Thanking you ,
Syam Kumar
