topic Linux fan control on RX1600 in Operating System - Linux

I've successfully installed Debian Sarge with the latest debian-installer image onto my RX1600. There are two issues I've come along, of them one bothers a bit. I'm using kernel 2.6.8-2-mckinley.

Fan speed control - all the system fans are operating at full speed all the time, even though the server is in a cooled environment. Loading the acpi processor and fan modules has no effect. From my experience, I believe there should be a way for fan speeds to be automatically controlled as required by the thermal levels.

Another issue is when rebooting. On reboot or shutdown -r the system always shuts down instead of rebooting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"HPUX IM agents" sounds like something available for HP-UX only. I'm running Linux Debian here. Are these agents/drivers available on the media kit that came along with the RX1600?

Considering it's provided on CD's with the server, I'd think it should be functional. And aside from the lack of fan control, it's working like a charm.

I understand that HP cannot officially support Debian, as it's not managed by any one company, but unofficially I believe there are some possible solutions.

On x86 HP hardware, I've had nothing but positive experiences with Debian for almost ten years now.

Hi,

You may try the Debian version provided by HP :

http://h20219.www2.hp.com/services/cache/76815-0-0-225-121.aspx

It consists of a Debian plus HP specific drivers and agents.

Good luck.
Kodjo
