I can't seem to find any yum depostitory for Redhat Enterprise (specifically looking for WS3), does anybody know why? Is there some legal reson why? Seems like there was evidence that they did exist at one time at the duke site. Is there a way to use the Fedora or CentOS 3 depository with Redhat enterprise versions?

Masaki

you can not use Fedora update repository for RHEL, they will not work.

RHEL is supposed to be updated only via up2date using subscription.

after all RedHat makes money only by that way

Regards,
Gopi

Unless you have a specific business requirement for Redhat you are far better off with Fedora since you get far newer software versions, and don't have to bother with the overhead of managing licences.

You do get telephone and web-based support with Redhat, however I have to say that they have been of very limited help to me.

It is possible to update Redhat using Yum, however since it is unsupported you may as well just use Fedora since they are basically the same product.

If you do have a RHEL subscription and do not want to purchase one, you may install CentOS
http://www.centos.org/
which is compiled from the same sources as RHEL and all Enterprise bugfixes comes with only some days of delay.

Günt

The other trick is to get a 30 day test subscription then just use it to get all the latest patches that are not included on your build of the CDs.
