Hi All,

I would like to know how to find Suse9 release information. I have 2 servers running Suse9 32 bit and 64 bit, in 64 bit i have /etc/suse-release. I dont see this file in 32 bit . So, what is the best way to find out ?

suse9:/tmp # uname -a
Linux suse9 2.6.5-7.97-bigsmp #1 SMP Fri Jul 2 14:21:59 UTC 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

-Arun
Shalom Arun,

unmame -a is good enough.

The i386 will be replaced by ia64 or an identifiable 64 bit reference on a 64 bit machine with 64 bit OS software install.

You can also do a what or file on the kernel, that will provide a second check.

SEP

Thanks SEP, I want to find out which patch level it is. In my 64 bit machine,

Suse9-64:~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release
SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (x86_64)
VERSION = 9
PATCHLEVEL = 3

unmame -a is good enough to find the release information. Not helpful for finding patch levels.

-Arun
P.S "what" is specific for HP-UX.

I see,

1) sorry about my poor typing.
2) what command, this stuff sometimes merges into a crash dump in my head.
3) I've seen the same problem on Red Hat 2.1 which does include /etc/redhat-release

Its kind of a pain, the only thing you can do is look at the kernel version and manually match it to a matrix from the suse website. Problem is the kernel could have been upgaded, but the rest of the OS left alone.

I don't totally understand this because I don't work much with Suse, but here is a possible solution from Novell.

http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/15749.html

Please check it.

BTW there was no need to point my first post, which was never meant to be. I'd already asked the moderators to delete it.

Thanks for the reward.

My hope is you have success in resolution of your question.

SEP
